Site Controls to Demonstrate Live Demand Response Event at
2008 Electric Utility Consultants Summit

Intelligent Load Management technology to be featured in a real-time energy load shed
at over 500 commercial retail sites

AUSTIN, TX – June 23, 2008 Site Controls, the leading provider of enterprise energy management, facilities intelligence, grid efficiency solutions, and intelligent load management today announced that the company will publicly demonstrate, via webcam, a live demand response event with five large commercial retailers on Tuesday, June 24 at the 2008 Demand Response and Energy Efficiency National Summit. Chris Hickman, President of Energy Services for Site Controls, will conduct the demonstration.

During the live demonstration, Site Controls will show how its Intelligent Load Management solutions automatically reduce energy usage through continuous control of lighting, air conditioning, refrigeration and other equipment according to pre-determined business rules – all without interfering with the customers' shopping experience. The live demand response event will take place as part of the conference session on "The Future of Demand Response" that includes Hickman and Sila Kiliccote, senior scientific engineering associate for the demand response research center at Lawrence Berkley Laboratory.
Hickman and Kiliccote's panel discussion will focus on:

  • The definition of different demand response products
  • Market trends in demand response
  • Stratification of demand response products in the future
  • Renewables balancing
  • Fully automated control with granular dispatch

Site Controls' Intelligent Load Management solutions enable chain retailers and other commercial building operators to generate incremental revenue, save energy, protect the grid from rolling blackouts and improve their brand image. Site Controls' innovative technology continuously monitors retail locations to ensure building conditions stay within the pre-defined parameters, including maximum building temperature, maximum CO2 concentration, and minimum lighting levels. This enables the maximum energy savings while protecting the stores' ability to do business as well as protect the brand image by insuring a comfortable store environment.

By combining dozens or hundreds of retail locations into a single energy source, Site Controls functions as a demand response aggregator. Energy reduction occurs through a variety of methods, including cycling HVAC units, standardizing air conditioning set points, turning off a portion of decorative or non-essential lighting, and controlling the use of other energy-intensive processes or loads. During an event, the platform communicates in real-time with every enrolled site on the network and takes out the least-consequential load first. Locations often participate in events without anyone within the facility even knowing an event is occurring.

The 2008 Demand Response and Energy Efficiency National Summit, taking place June 24-25 in San Diego, CA, aims to reach those who work in utilities, particularly those in the demand response, energy-efficiency and renewable fields. The summit is a way for businesses looking to expand their existing efforts or for utility companies looking to implement new efficiency measures to learn about innovative technologies and solutions.

"Site Controls is thrilled to be the first company to perform a live, large shed event at an industry summit. We are proud of our strong customer relationships and the power of the platform that can help alleviate the stress on our national electric grid and help keep the lights on for everyone," said Hickman. "This is an exciting time in the energy industry and we are proud to be the leading solution provider for fully automated demand response and energy efficiency solutions."
